Straightahead pianist Mike Longo gives a fitting tribute to jazz icon Oscar Peterson on this swinging trio date from a 2013 gig in NYC. He’s teamed up with Paul West/b and Ray Mosca/dr and builds up a sweat here with a full fisted take of “Love You Madley” and a flowing “I remember You.” He an also go dainty and fluffy, as on “Tenderly” but for the most part likes to rollick, even when foreboding as during “Love For Sale.” Mosca is in wonderful form here as well, using his brushes like Cezanne on the buoyant “Always” and going gospel groove during “Work Song” while West gets dark and thick on a mysterious “Yesterdays.” Classic trio for a classy homage.
