Drummer/percussionist Mauricio Zottarelli joins forces with electric bassist Amanda Ruzza as well as guest Leo Genovese/key-sax on a collection of fusion-fested originals. If things like Herbie Hancock’s Headhunters is your thing, this disc was made for you, as lots of thick vamps gurgle beneath keyboard and synthesizing sounds akin to the plugged in classic. Funky sounding pieces such as “Soundcheck” and “Fuego” have busy stick work by Zottarelli laying the groundwork for big fat bass lines and keyboard ecstasies. Some Bo Diddley drum patters set the table for “Big Foot” while the riff on “No Glasses” are reminiscent of the halcyon days of the O’Jays. The sticks keep hyperactive with Ruzza’s contrasting volcanic picking and Genovese’s electronic keyboard flights in Romantic Warrior land. Lots of jazz rock fun here for those in the Afro Sheen mood.
