It’s great to see that mainstream jazz label Arbors Records is literally back in the swing of things again. Here, we’ve got peppy and mature vocalist Rebecca Kilgore with the hip quartet of breathy tenor saxist Harry Allen. Along with Rossano Sportiello/p, Joel Forbes/b and Kevin Kanner/dr Allen provides a pair of wax dripping instrumentals of “He’s My Guy” and “Ballad of the Sad Young Men” as accents to perfectly sublime support for Kilgore on material like the sashaying “For Eery man Theres’ a Woman” and thebouyant “The Boy Next Door.” Kilgore and company get clever with a double time take of “The Man I Love” that is crisp like a baked potato chip, while her voice has a wink in the eye on “One Man AIn’t Quite Enough.” She delivers a lyric like she’s been around the block a few times-she knows the score here.
