Not all family run businesses are dry cleaners or restaurants! Based in LA, the Brazilian band Nobresil is lead by the husband and wife team of Leo Nobre/b and Mari Nobre/voc, and they coax out an impressive collection of originals along with guests Hubert Laws, Justo Almario, Marcos Ariel, Carlinhos Pandeiro de Ouro and Jovino Santos Neto.
Wife Mari has a husky voice, as she sings in both English and Portuguese with a percussively upbeat “Thank You” and a joyful and earnest “Gosto de Voce.” Lovely flutes and brass meld with guitar on “Linda” while husband Leo does some nice bass stylings on the melodic “And Now” and the slinky “Canto da Terra.” A bluesy “Fascinating Rhythm” has gorgeous piano framing Mari’s delivery, while flying flutes flock like gulls over the sea her and on “Sertao Californiano.” Fresh and fervent, this team is eager to please.
