Six string electric guitarist Gene Segal mixes 70s rock steady rhythms with some jazz feel on this driving disc with Jon Irabagon/as, Sam Sadigursky/reeds, Sean Conly/b and Jaimeo Brown/dr. The release is divided into “Mental Images” and “Circus Music,” but the consistency is the same. Progressive rock sounds from Sadigursky’s bass clarinet mix with driving rock on “Minds Eye” while Segal’s guitar gets some keyboard like sounds from the mix on the eerie “Allegory of the Cave.” A Rock steady guitar picks away along with some soprano sax on the yearning “The Bearded Lady” and a whimsical clarinet is felt on “Trapeze Act.” Most of all, rich and exciting chops from Segals axe make for a blues jamming delight.
