Guitarist Charlie Apicella leads a smoking B3 trio with Dan Kostelnick/B3 and Alan Korzin/dr which also is supplemented by some hip horns by Stephen Riley/ts and Freddie Hendrix/tp as well as some percolating congas from Mayra Casales. Some shuffle boogie back beat meets with riffing horns on a hot take of “I Hear A Symphony” while R&B and soul get into the mix on ‘Big Boss” and “Idris.” Apicella’s lines are crisp, clean and creatively swinging, while the rhythm team gets the head nodding on a rollicking take of Willie Dixon’s “Spoonful.” A grooving gospel sound comes from Riley’s tenor on the churchified “Sunday Morning” and the Sugar Mannish “The Selma March” and gentle ballad sounds fill the room with guest violinist Amy Bateman on the luscious “Amalfi” which includes lovely percussion undertones. This will get you up on your feet!
