Still partying and low riding after all these years, War releases their first studio album of new material since Clinton was in the White House, and for good measure they make it a 2cd set by throwing in a remastered reading of their indefatigable Greatest Hits album. What more could you want for cruising the boulevard?
The new release includes guest appearances by Cheech & Chong (!), Joe Walsh, Tower of Power, and even the USC Marching Band. You’ve got latin pieces such as “Mamacita,” hip shaking stuff such as “This Funky Music” and deep messages as on ”War/War After War (A Soldier’s Story).” Genre-bending pieces such as “Outer Space” and “Scream Stream” will definitely wake you up, and two takes of “That L.A. Sunshine (the second with C&C) bookend the session with classic Angelese.
What can you say about their greatest hits? If you don’t yet know the words by hear t to “The World Is A Ghetto,” “The Cisco Kid” and, of course “Low Ride,” then here is the place to start. School begins now!
