Marky Quayle: Comfort My People

Here’s a creation that is well overdue in conception. Vocalist Marky Quayle takes some classic church hymns as well as songs from the Greatest Songbook of them all (the Bible), and gives a modern jazz translation in a way that could win over the most staid agnostic. Her husky and warm voice is alluring on cleverly arranged tunes with a Jerry Hahn/g-arr, Mel Graves/b and George Marsh/dr. Her jazz waltz take of “The Old Rugged Cross” is a real swinger, while “Just A Closer Walk With Me” lilts with a snappy swagger. For those on the Old Testament side of life, a reading of “Rejoice With Jerusalem” with a heavy Hassidic beat will get you on your feet in no time, with Quayle’s timing right on the mark.  A great idea that is as ecumenical as it is attractive. Give it a try and listen to music made for eternity done right.
