Grant Geissman: Bop! Bang! Boom!

GUITAR NERDS UNITE! This is the disc you’ve been waiting for! 6 stringed session maestro Grant Geissman, alumnus of Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, has released his third cooking little homage to the wonderful axe. Any guy that lists the type of guitar(s) for each song is a picker after my own heart, and he even brings in a couple ringers on the frets to keep the session exciting. Albert Lee and Larry Carlton bring their Fenders and Gibsons to create some blues rock nirvana on “Texas Shuffle,” while Tom Scott brings in his horn to make you feel like you’re on Beale Street for some shuffling grooves on “Off The Grid.”  Guests like Tom Ranier, Russell Ferrante, Leland Sklar and Van Dyke Parks make cameos like Around the World in 80 Days, to material like the New Orleansish “Stella” or the hyper hip “Good Morning Mister Phelps.” The working rhythm team of Emilio Palame/p,Trey Henry-Kevin Axt/b, Ray Brinker/dr and Alex Acuna/perc cruise like a 72 El Camino throughout the session, but deliver up a frothy swirl on “Samba en Menor” like a custard pie. All throughout, Geissman is the epitome of style, taste, class and chops. If this doesn’t cook your lasagna, than try some other meal.
