The Clare Fischer Orchestra: After the Rain, Music For Strings, Percussion and the Rest

Composer, arranger and keyboardist Clare Fischer, who passed away in 2012, had a career which crossed many styles of music from classical to bebop with Dizzy Gillespie. These two albums lean more towards his classical side, but still reflect his jazz and latin leanings.

After the Rain collects 3 pieces, “Suite for Cello & String Orchestra,” “Time Piece” and “Bachludes I & II.” The first piece from 1999 has some wonderful cello works by Cecilian Tsan, while the 1998 three part “Time Piece” features a complete symphonic tribute to Igor Stravinsky. The “Bachludes” are a sublime joy and have a breath of fresh air to them.

The Music For Strings… mixes modern classical sounds with Latin percussion and some rich alto sax soloing by Gary Foster. Percussion work by Brent Fischer bring out a Afro-Cuban feel, while Bryan Pezzone’s piano on “Interlude and “ Reflection” have a rich texture and depth. Some vibe work on “Retrograde” by Brent Fischer leads to an intriguing conclusion on “A Moment of Silence.” Thoughtful contemporary musings.
