Keyboardist Matt Newton leads a lithe trio with Dan Fortin/b and Ethan Ardelli/dr through some well crafted originals. He includes Felicity Williams’ voice and Harley Card’s guitar on “Our Own World” to break the color code, but otherwise pieces such as “Stepping into the Light” and the title piece show a rich and modern touch influenced by the likes of Jarrett and Mehldau. The conversant tone between Fortin and Ardelli make this a more holistic piece than a simple “mow, blow and go” styled trio, with “Stepping Into the Light” highlighting the impressive interplay. A fun one for trio fans!
