LA musicans Ariel Alexander/sax and Jon Bremen/g team up with fellow locals Louis Cole/dr, Tim LeFebvre/b, Vardan Ovsepian/p and Sara Leib/voc on an ep of originals and traditional folk tunes. Alexander’s airy sax mixes well with Leib during “Daisy” while the heavy backbeat on the whole session drives the music forward, as on the frenetic “Street Cries of Charleston” and the latin “Pepper Pot” which features Breman’s guitar work. Ovsepian’s piano is a highlight as he mixes well with Alexander’s tenor on “September” and the hip “Yukon,” showing that The Best Coast guys have something to say on the jazz scene.
