Alison Wedding’s style beckons to the era of the sensitive singer/songwriter of the 70s. Think Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian, Joan Baez and other “Ladies of the Canyon.” She writes all of the material here, almost all of the themes are what you’d expect…RELATIONSHIPS! I have two daughters and a wife-what else do they talk about?!? She accompanies herself on piano (except for the a capella title track) and mixes and matches the late night and sepia colored mood with strings, guitar, percussion and various cameo guests. Theo Bleckmann loans his voice and electric processing to an intriguing “Anyone But You,” while Chris Potter’s tenor adds a mood depth to “Remain.” Lionel Loueke’s voice and Sahel influenced guitar contribute exoticism to “Carry On” as well, but the focus all throughout is working through the challenges of various stages of personal difficulties in what this thing is called love.
