American Hustle: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

I’ve resisted seeing the movie yet, as I just don’t think my heart is strong enough to take seeing Amy Adams go from a  Princess in “Enchanted” to a mistress. And the clothes she’s “wearing” on the cover? Talking about making a mountain out of a molehill! But I digress…

The music emphasizes songs from the 70s such as Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and Paul McCartney & Wings’ “Live and Let Die.” So the mood is set. More adventurous rock is provided by Electric Light Orchestra with its progressive “10538 Overture” and the previously released “Stream of Stars” by ELOer Jeff Lynne. Even disco rears its ugly head in the form of Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love.” How could the 70s be complete without it? More enjoyable are the male lounge lizards, such as Tom Jones wailing on “Delilah” and Jack Jones as the ultimate hipster on “I’ve Got Your Number,” and the most timeless tune is a wonderful take of Duke Ellington with Johnny Hodges burning down the house with “Jeep’s Blues.” Can the movie be half this good?
