Norma Winstone: Dance Without Answer

Here is the third release by the quiet and intimate trio of vocalist Norma Winstone and Glauco Venier/p and Klaus Gesing/bcl-ss. The opening instrumental title track sets the tone for deeply ruminating pieces, right up to the closing cover of the 60s piece “Everybody’s Talkin’” that broods like a jilted dated. Another intriguing cover is her reading of Tom Waits’ “San Diego Serenade” that has sepia toned Winstone dueting with Gesing’s bass clarinet, while even a tune from the Muppets, “Bein’ Alive” or from the 80s movie Tootsie, the song “It Might Be You” are pensively performed with the trio of sonorities envelope you like an oozing balm. Reaching both the intellect and viscera simultaneously.
