Here’s a singer/songwriter that is known in pop and rock circles, but has also put out a few well done jazz discs as well. This 2 cd set of 32 songs covers his solo career, starting with his 1969 “I’ll Be Long Gone” and “Loan Me A Dime” up to and including his 2012 Memphis disc with a mature and bluesy “Gone Baby Gone. “ In between are tunes that are probably sound tracks to your dating life, such as “Lowdown” and “Lido Shuffle” as well as “Jojo”, but you’ll be impressed as well with his collaboration with Booker T and the MG’s on “As The Years Go Passing By.” His voice, always relaxed and suavely gruff, is what most blue eye’d soul singers wish for.
