Guitarist John Stein produces an album to pass on to his grandkids his musical inspirations. He trios with Ed Lucie/b and Mike Connors/dr for a mix of originals and standards, and his clean, Jim Hall’d economy works well throughout. He boogies on Wes Montgomery’s “Road Song”, is pretty for Wayne Shorter’s “Infant Eyes” and bluesy on Monk’s Mysterioso” His own “Kai” features Connors’ hip high hat with “Ellie” assuaged by the brushes. A nice gift to his progeny.
