A Ninja Blender mixture of acoustic and electronics are put together on this release by Jeff Kaiser playing trumpet and “live” electronics going toe to with clarinetist and electronitian Eric P. Mandat. There are five musical conversations, all varied and all variegated, and at times making one wonder where the instruments end and the plugged in tones begin.
“Convincing Replica” mixes trumpet mouthpiece squeezing and swirling reeds with scurrying critters in the synthesized underbrush, while rustling centipedes of dials and buttons intersect on “Duck Feathers and Phonograph Records”. Frenetic bop lines from the horns whirl around in a dervish through the electronic stasis of “His Theory Didn’t Cover That”, with the horns providing long tones over the radiant heat emanations for “Daydreams”, and some otherworldly percussion from mouth pieces or ones buccinators juxtapose with sonic chemical compounds during Ritual Parody”.
A collection of doors that open to mysterious musical chambers and hallways.
