KEEP IT COMING…Bill Evans: In Norway-The Kongsberg Concert

This is about the 5th or 6th boxed set of previously unreleased music by Bill Evans delivered via the guiding light of Zev Feldman, and is anyone complaining? Recordd back in June 26, 1970 at the Kongsberrg Jazz Festival in Norway, the 13 tunes find Bill Evans with his working team of Eddie Gomez/b and Marty Morell/dr. During this time, Evans had done a solo album, some experiments with electronic keyboards and a live album with the same band, about to go into the studio for the impressive Bill Evans Album.

Musically, Evans was at a high point, and his regular set list of “Gloria’s Step” “Emily” “Nardis” and “Turn Out The Stars” is augmented by some rarely heard tunes, such as a very hip read of “So What”, “What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life” and “Midnight Mood”. Almost everything clocks in between 5-7 minutes, with Gomez getting to stretch out on ”Nardis”. Evans has a n upbeat feel this evening, with “Turn Out The S tars”, “Quiet Now” and “What Are  You Doing…” all containing a bit of an extra spring in the step. This was a band that had been together for a while, so the interplay is almost at the ESP level. Keep an eye open for this gem.
