Hot Toddies Jazz Band: Triple Step

Danceable, two stepping and hot swing is delivered by two sizzling ladies at the mic in Hannah Gill and Queen Esther, as they trade off together as well as taking time to do their own work on this toe tapping foot stomper of a session. The team of Alphonso Horne/tp, Linus Wyrsch/reeds, Jake Handelman/tb, Jason Yeager/org, Justin Poindexter/g, Ian Hutchison/b and Patrick Soluri/dr serve up a swamp read of fresh and enthused takes of vintage material for the ladies on Duke Ellington’s “In A Mellow Tone” and give a soulful take with Wyrsch’s woody clarinet for Queen Esther on ‘Moonglow”. Hannah coos with Poindexter on a deliciously delectable “I’m Confessin’” and Poindexter picks up the mic a few times himself, once for the swaying shuffle of “School Days” and getting Old Timey on “Why”. The ceiling is low, the room is smoke filled and the hooch is home made. Repeal the 18th Amendment!
