As brother Wynton is for mainstream jazz, trombonist Delfeayo has over the years become the ambassador to New Orleans-inspired sounds. And it’s not just old time Preservation Hall stuff. We’re talking good times and get up on your feet kind of thing. This album, which features not only his working and travelling band including earthy vocalist Tony Boyd-Cannon, but it brings in guests lie Herlin Riley/dr, brother Branford/ss and Kermit Ruffins/tp for some extra gumbo. The band boogaloos through pieces like “Sidewalk Sizzle” and swings into KC for “Basie Moods” while Boyd-Cannon holds court on “A Sleepin’ Bee” “Summertime” and “Exactly Like You”. Marsalis is the MC, and sets the stage with encouraging words as well as some hip soloing as on “Lil Liza Jane”. This is a band that is felt as well as heard.
