Leslie  Pintchik: Prayer For What Remains

Creative pianist Leslie Pintchik brings together Steve Wilson/ss, Satoshi Takeishi/perc, Michael Sarin/dr and Scott Hardy/b for a mix of originals and creative covers in a meditative mood. She creates a warm environment with Sarin’s brushes on a delightful read of The Beatles’ “I Will” while the sticks scramble under Joni Mitchell’s “Banquet”. Her own title track has a lovely gentility with Wilson’s soprano, while her own touch owes a debt to the lyricism of Bill Evans, evidenced on the melodic interplay with Hardy on “LaterThan We Think” and the intro to “Private Moment”. Things do get upbeat, with a funky Caribbean “Just Sayin’” and a bluesy “Requests Denied” that has Pintchik’s left hand working overtime. A mix of Sunday morning and Wednesday evening prayer times.
