Playing electric five string viola and violin, Jimbo Ross swings with a tone hinting at Stephane Grappelli with his team of Joe Gaeta/g, Stuart Elster/p, Peter Marshall/b and Ron Wagner/dr through a collection of swinging standards and an original. Ross’ sound is warm and vibrant, diggin in well on “Deliliah” and bopping in unison with Gaeta on Wes Montgomery’s “Jingles”. There’s some Bob Wills-ish western swing on the fun “East Lag” while Ross gets dreamy with Elster on a rich read of “My Man’s Gone Now”. Wagner’s high hat snaps to on “The Breeze & I” and the team samba’s like vintage Brazilians for “”The Night Has A Thousand Eyes”. Paganini is bopping!
