One of today’s leading chimers of the vibes, Warren Wolf gives a tip to both contemporaries and history makers of his called instrument. The band of Tim Gren/as-ss, Alex Brown/p-key, Vicent Archer/b and Carrol Dashiell III/dr keep things of the past fresh, with two takes of Lionel Hampton’s “Midnight Sun” letting Green go upbeat on one read, and Brown teaming with the leader on the glorious second. Cal Tjader’s “Sad Eyes” has Green in a mellow tone, while Chick Corea’s “Captain Senor Mouse” brings in a rich soprano joined by Brown in a bouncy mood. Wolf has his own sound, getting bluesy on “Django” and running like a whitewater raft on “Herzog”. Anthology of good vibes.
