Lyn Stanley: Lost in Romance

By surrounding herself with some of LA’s best session studs, vocalist Lyn Stanley does herself a favor in presenting this collection of chestnuts/standards. Her voice is sort of a Dietrichish chanteuse, sounding like an old soul on material such as “Change Partners” and “My Foolish Heart.” A subtle vibrato is used well on “Fever” and supporting work by Tamir Hendelman/p, Trey Henry/b and Jeff Hamilton/dr here and on most of the other tracks make tunes like “You Go To My Head” sound fragrant and  fresh. A bluesy rocking piece by Willie Dixon livens things up, with Thom Rotella bending the Strat strings, while his delicate treatment on “Something” blends with Stanley to perfection. A pleasant way hear well known tunes.
