Mixing guitar with effects, Olin Clark brings together a hard rocking jazz unit of Nathan Reising/ts, Dan Montgomery/b, Evan Hyde/dr and guests Lily Talmers/voc with Aidan Cafferty/key. Clark has a rich texture to his strings, reminiscent of the teaming of Scofield and Lovano, with Reising working tricky angles on pieces like “Detritus” and hard bopping along the line of “ Coveted”. The two are melodic for “Knifepaining” and hit hard with added effects for “Titan”. The team gets more folksy with Talmers, flexible on “There’s Always A Place” and lyrical for the dramatic climax of the title tune. Well crafted directions.
