Best known for his work as a sideman for the likes of Dave Holland, drummer Obed Calvaire puts together his own working team for an impressive album that mixes sounds and flavors like a musical gumbo. The team of Godwin Louis/as, Harold St. Louis/key, Dener Ceide/g, Sullivan Fortner/p-org and Addi Lafosse/eg are quite flexible, as they range from tropical delights as on the title tune, to straightaway bop with Louis in the ead on “Just Friends”. Thick texture from the keyboards abound, as on the soulful “”Nan Pwen Miray Lanmou Pap Kraze” and “Sa Nou Fe Nap Peye” with Jonathan Michel adding some urban voicings. Some sizzling fusion grooves well on “Gaya Ko W” and the leader shows his strengths in service here, shining in every flavored plate.
