****RINGER OF THE WEEK****Mario Adnet: Um Olhar Sobre

Digging into the songbook of famed composer Heitor Villa Lobos, Mario Adnet comes up with gold on this wondrous mix of voice, orchestra and intimate instruments. The warm and full bodied mix of strings and brass can be as impressionistically Debussyesque on a piece such as “Realejo” or can caress the background like a gentle breeze, allowing for a fragrant flute to float by on “A Nenina das Nuvens.”  Cheerful voices mix with the restless horns on “Danca” and an old world string section produces a waltz with rich voice on “Tristorosa.” Gentle chords on guitar are draped with satin drapes on “Marzurka” while a sensual vocal chorus stirs in a pan with guitar and percussion on a “Estrela E Lua Nova” that you don’t want to end. This is music for the ages. I didn’t think they made music like this anymore. Don’t pass it by!
