Renfroe/Sellick: Aberdeen Blues

The joys in an album as intimate as this one by bassist Luke Sellick and guitarist Andrew Renfore not only lays in the playing, but in the song selection. And in this case, the pickings were excellent. There’s a nice folksy air t Bukka White’s “Aberdeen Blues” and an earthy rural mood on Muddy Waters’ “I Can’t Be Satisfied”. But what gets a grin on your face is the dreamy read of Billy Eckstine’s tasty “Everything I Have Is Yours” and an open swing feel of “Northwest Passage”, both featuring Sellick, while Renfroe’s pickings on “We’ve Only Just Begun” is a delicious treat.
