Playing alto and soprano saxes, composer and arranger Bobby Selvaggio leads a rotating eleven member band through seven original tunes that have a modern feel to them. Tenor saxists Tony Spicer and Chris Coles get spotlights on the Coltranish “Falling UP “ and elegiac “Four Past Midnight” . Selvaggio’s soprano is sweet around Orlando Watson’s spoken words on “I Have A Dream” with drummer Janes Johnson III getting funky on “Concentric Circles”. The sections punch back and forth like middleweights, and rock hard on the grooving “Free Play”. Bold strokes.
