Lovely pastoral moods are created by Canadian solo guitarist Roddy Ellias on his most recent released. While doing many recordings in a small group atmosphere, Ellias steps back and goes acoustic, taking you to his back porch on these water colored originals.
Like the best of artists, Ellias knows how to make space a sound of its own. Pieces such as “Prelude” and “Butterfly Dreams” are filled with soft yet swaying ruminations, while he has guitar licks and strums conversing back and forth on “Interlude”. Soft droplets of sunshine glisten on “Little Bird’s First Flight” with the strings giving a bluesy pulse with some grit on “Monkey Business”. There are hints of English folk a la John Renbourn on the minstrel’d “Summer’s End” and the harkening “Brothers and Sisters”, with a cozy and intimate feel summing up the session on the closing “Hope”. Comfortable paths on which to stroll.
