Electric bassist Christian Fabian gets funky with his team of Matt King/key and Jason Marsalis/dr as the three give Soul Train reads of jazz standards and some originals. There’s a Return to Foreverish feel to the fusioned title tune original, as well as McCoy Tyner’s “Effendi”, while Fabian brings some Jaco Pastorius funk to “Moanin’”. 70s R&B gets the cathunka feel on a smooth “When The Saints Go Marching In” and a snappy read of “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy”.
