Composer Richard Nelson puts together a jazz orchestra to mix modern classical and jazz concepts in a three piece opus. The fifteen minute “Dissolve” is a fragmented kaleidoscope of sounds with reeds and brass fighting for center stage. “Float” includes Tim O’Dell’s soprano sax and Nelson’s own guitar veering in and out of the crosstown traffic, with the concluding “Cohere” bringing in a wide range of dynamic that wax and wane like the tides. A musical box of ideas that open and close.
