Clean and clear-toned guitarist Kristen R. Bromley delivers a double disc of solo work, comprised of jazz standards, hymns and originals. Her style is like an economized version of Joe Pass; still skilled and sophisticated, but not with as much rococo additions. She even accompanies herself on vocals for some of the material , notably a hip take of “Route 66”, a cozy “L-O-V-E” and a delicate “Amazing Grace”, with her own “ Rainy Day Blues” relaxed and rural.
As for her playing, she gives some pretty ideas to “I Know That My Redeemer Lives” and shows she can lay down a supporting groove on Herbie Hancock’s “Watermelon Man” and “Cantaloupe Island”. She has a nice feel to the samba pulse on “The Girl From Ipanema” and “Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars” with gentle chords on her guitar. Her own material like “Faith Preceded My Miracle” and “Through The Veil” are clever and mature, easy to follow but not predictable. Understated charms.
