Playing guitar and singing with a honeyed yet traveled voice, Emanuel Casablanca delivers modern blues with a core team of Julian Chobot-Sam Lazarev/b, Donal Sturge Anthony McKenzie II-Max Freeberg/dr and a slew of guests on some gritty originals. There’s a thick Jimi Hendrix presence on pieces such as “Strung Out On Thrills” and “Conniver”, as well as a 50s lilt with guest Laurence Henderson on “Visceral”. The guitars are sliding with Elliot Sharp on “Morning Wood” and some acoustic delta moss sways on “The Farm”. Salvo brings in some classical guitar on “Pistolero” and Joanna Connor and Kelli Baker team up to boogie on the shufflin’ “Lass”. Urban and urbane.
