Recently departed tenor sax legend Pharoah Sanders is captured in a collection of 1977 recordings in Germany on this record with Tisziji Munoz/g, Clifton Chase/org, then-wife Bedria Sanders/-harmonium, Greg Bandy/dr and Steve Neil/b.
The musicians mix and match throughout, with one take of “Haravest Time” simply a melding of meditative keys and Sanders’ breathy tenor. “Love Will Find A Way” as some rockish electric guitar noodling” while “Memories of Edith Johnson” is a rubato of chanting and church like harmonium. With drummer, Sanders swings more a bit on a second (live) take of “Harvest Time”, with the biggest surprise here being how much Sanders already sounds like Ben Webster. No screaming, just sighing.
