Robert Glasper teams up with Derrick Hodge to compose music for the series Run The World, and the result is possibly his most satisfying album for straight-ahead fans in years.
There are a couple of soulful pop pieces, such as SiR and Alex Isley going rich and slow on the mix of piano and synth on “Back To Love”, and Emily King sweet and slow on a modern R&Ber of “What Love Can Do.”
Those are the main tunes; the rest of the album is comprised of satisfying snipes, such as a reflective acoustic piano on “I Hope You Thrive”, an easy swing of keys and trumpet on “Avoiding Radha”, graceful ivories on ”Langley Fellowship” and a breezy swing on the keys during “New Potential”. It would be a gas to hear these stretched out.
