The organ trio of Soren Lee/g, Mads Sondergaard/org and Brian Melvin/dr take on the John Coltrane songbook with creativity and vigor on this new release. Lee has a sound that is reminiscent of Wes Montgomery and Grant Green, simmering on the rich “It’s Easy To Reember” and bopping on “Miles Mode”, getting gorgeously lyrical around Melvin’s cymbals on “Body and Soul”. Sondergaard is in a bluesy mood on “Dahomey Dance” and sizzles through “Cousin Mary”, while Melvin hammers out a tribute on “M-Elvin” and creates an avalanche on “Afro Blue”. This is a fun one-showing a side of Coltrane few remember-when he was an R&B player in his early days. Trane walks the bar.
