Angela DeNiro: Swingin’ With Legends 2

Backed by Ron Aprea’s swinging big band, Angela DeNiro drives like a V8 engine on this collection of tunes. She  has a tone and relentlessly bopping delivery reminiscent of Ella Fitzgerald, which works like a hand in glove on pumpers like “Now York City Blues” and an extroverted read of “Willow Weep For Me”. She shows swagger on “Don’cha Go ‘Way Mad” and sears through the bold blast led by Chris Persad’s trumpet on “A House Is Not A Home.” She welcomes guests as well, with Lew Tabackin bringing in a classy tenor solo while DeNiro scats out “It Might As Well Be Spring, and she jets through note for note with trumpeter Randy Brecker on “Hello Young Lovers”. A graceful “Hello Young Lovers” has her cooing with clarinetist Ken  Peplowski , and she glows around the woodwinds on a wondrous “My One And Only Love”. Finger poppin’ time.
