Continuing it’s vinyl revival of re-issuing classic sessions, Craft dug deep for this one by the underappreciated bassist Curtis Counce. Here, the West Coast bassist teams up with Carl Perkins/p, Frank Butler/dr, Harold Land/ts and Jack Sheldon/tp. Counce brings in a couple originals, and they sound hip on “Complete” and “Counceltation”, but otherwise you get California Cool reads of things like a bopping “Big Foot” from the obscure side of Charlie Parker and the snapping taking of “Woody ‘n You”. Land and Sheldon are gorgeous on “How Deep Is The Ocean” and Perkins bounces with Counce on “Too Close For Comfort”. Az breezy as driving on PCH with the top down.
