The Moore-McColl Jazz Society: Up and Gone

Footstomping R&B in the likes of a Memphis Stew is delivered by bold a nd brassy vocals of keyboardist Beth Moore teamed up with guitarist Chance McColl and a STAXY collection of Tim Aucoin/b, Joel Morris/dr, Randy Hunter/as, Caleb Lattimore/tp, Justin Powell/tp and DeclanWard/as. You’ve even got some sirens wailing alongside the wailing horns and Moore’s B3 on the gritty “Up and Gone”. Some of the songs, with the wacka wooka guitar supplied by McColl, sound like outtakes from a Blaxpoitation film, as on the funky “No Apology”, the get-down’d “Sojourn in A Minor” or boogalooing “What’s Still Happening!!”. Hunter’s alto wails like Hank Crawford around the jabbing guitar riffs on the murky “Back To Atlanta”, with Morris grooving out some jazzy work for some tasty vocl and guitar treats on “A Song For Vince”. Who’s got the dry rub ribs?!?
