Warm toned vocalist Jeff Harner takes on the Cy Coleman songbook, with arrangements richly put together by pianist Alex Rybeck. The jazz team of Rick Reckman-Mrc Phaneuf/fl-as, Tony Kadleck/tp, Randy Andos/tb, Ray Marchica/dr, Sean Harkness/g and Jay Leonhart/b is augmented by a string section to rich advantage. The album has a Broadway kind of feel, with Harnar sounding like a cabaret star, duetting with Ann Hampton Callaway on “I’ve Got your Number” and having fun with Rybeck on a hip “A Dodlin’ Song”. There’s a bit of Klezmer feel with Nicolas King and Danny Bacher on “Rhythm of Life”, and he particularly shines with a warm vibrato teamed with Harkness for “My City”. Polished and shiny.
