Tenor saxist John Wojciechowski (and that’s the last time I’m writing that name all the way out) sounds like Atlantic-Records era John Coltrane with a simpatico team of Xavier Davis/p, Clark Sommers/b and Dana Hall/dr on this collection of originals. He brings out his alto flute for a pretty sonata featuring him and Davis on “ Past Reflections”, while in dramatic modal fashion on “The Leaves Fall To The Ground” and “Minds Eye”. Sommers is featured on the intro to the latter, and digs in hard with the leader on a searing “Peripheral Vision”. The tenor is most warm and frothy on a rich “Lexicon” that glistens over Davis’ ivories. Tuff tenor.
