Benjamin Gisli Trio: Line Of Thought

Impressionist moods sounding like pastels are delivered by pianist Benjamin Gisli and his mates Andreas Soldheim/b and Veslemay Norvesen/dr on this collection of originals and a couple interpretations. Gisli understands the use of silence as a sound, playing notes as if he were paying for each quarter note around Soldheim’s bass on the evocative “Rokkur” and wafting delicately over Narvesen’s cymbals during “Simba”. Gisli creates musical lily pads at Givenchy on Carla Bley’s “Line Of Thought” , with hints of Bill Evans romanticism is palpable on the slightly assertive “Gospel Song For Andy”. An addition to a bowing saw by Narvesen adds to the haunting crystalline night of “It Will Be All Right” with the dainty ”For Carla” a full moon of wondrous notes. Long evening shadows.
