Trumpeter Mike Rodriguez teams up with brother /pianist Robert and a sizzling rhythm section of Antony Almonte/perc, Ricky Rodriguez/ and Adam Cruz/dr for a heated session at Dizzy’s Club in NYC. Except for a warm flugelhorn on the soft and romantic “Lulu’s Song”, Rodriguez hits the trumpet hard, riding the crest on a muted horn for the percolating “Gitmo’s Groove” while bold and blue over Cruz’s brushes on “Descargation”. Brother Robert’s piano gives a fragrant intro to “Imprmptu” and digs into a gospel groove for “Mnor Things, f orming a rivulet with Ricky Rodriguez for “Guayaquil”. Brotherly love.
