This dvd-2cd set captures George Benson bac kin 1986 performing at the Montreux Festival, with an uncredited backup team. I’m sure that you know that there are essentially “two” George Bensons: the soul jazz guitarist and the R&B crooner. This time around he emphasizes the latter, with the concert focusing on material from his albums Weekend In LA, 20/20 and Give Me The Night, and Benson is in great voice, akin to Nat Cole, on pieces like “The Greatest Love Of All” and “Love Ballad”. Sure, he plays the guitar a bit, as during “On Broadway” and “Weekend In LA”, but this night the focus is on hitting the dance floor, and Benson is Good King Bad in that genre.
