Depauw University professor Steve Snyder gives a Master Class on the humming Hammond B3 in a trio setting with guitarist Joel Tucker and drummer Kenny Phelps. The session has the feel of vintage Blue Note recordings with Grant Green, as Tucker delivers tasty and tactful solos and lines as on the relaxed blueser “So That’s What This Is About” and the smoothly soulful “Legacy”. Snyder boogaloos the band through “Message From The Meters” and gives a mellow hue to “So Be”. Phelps drives the team through the intricate work of “Sharp Left” and has his cymbals gently coax through the pulsating “Thank You”, with the team getting gospel grooved on “Fourth Sixth”. Comfort food for the ears.
