Hilario Duran and His Lating Jazz Big Band: Cry Me A River

Pianist Hilario Duran pulls out all of the stops on this exciting Big Band collection that is reminiscent of Dizzy Gillespie’s United Orchestra of the 1990s. The rhythm section includes the fiery Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez/dr and Roberto Occhipinti/b along with a percussion discussion of Jorge Luis Torres and Magdelya Savigne on congas. Paquito D’Rivera joins in for a handful of songs, with his alto sax searing through the break of “A Night In Tunisia” and his clarinet taking a wild roller coaster ride with the leader on “Fantasia Impromptu”. Elizabeth Rodriguez plays violin and adds earthy vocals to the atmosphere, bold and clear on the salsa’d take of “Cry Me A River”, with the sizzling salsa grooving high on “Mambo Y Tumbao” and “I Remember Mingus”. The bold, bright and beautiful brass punches like a heavyweight, delivering a knockout on “Wild Blues” while serenading through “Claudia”. Caliente and picante!
