Warm toned trombonist Ryan Keberle creates modern Brazilia with Felipe Silveria/p, Felipe Brisola/b and Paulinho Vicente/dr on this recent release. There are post bop moments as on the darkly driven “Zanzibar” and the tricky groove of “Even Now”, with Vicente brushing up a nice cadence to “Gallop”. But, the best moments, as in all things Latin, are during the mellow moments, with Keberle in lyrical mood with Silveria on “Toada” , fragrant on “Pra Dizer Adeus” and longing on The Beatles’ “Blackbird”. Mellow brass wins the day.
