LATIN LOVES…Antonio Lizana  & Emilio Solla: El Siempre Mar, Luiz Millan: Brazilian Match

There is a reason we use “romantic” and not “teutonic” when discussing passions…

Antono Lizana sings and plays the sax while teaming up with pianist Emilo Solla, Jorge Roeder/b and Ferenc  Nemeth/dr for a collection of personal portrayals. A string quartet adds intimacy and passion on the rich and dramatic “Zamba Paa No Morir” with passionate woodwinds, and the lovely “Lejos De Casa” lead by Roeder’s bass. There’s a poppish “La Piedra” with Solla going bel canto on the bold rubato of “Luna Tucumana” while the two leaders plead on “Siempre Se Vuelva A Buenos Aires”. Rich reeds.

Sixteen, count ‘em, sixteen Brazilian beauties are before your eyes with vocals supplied by Luiz Mill an and guests including “Ellen Johnson, Giana Viscadi and the N ew York Vo ices. Clarinetist Eddie Daniels is luminous on “ Montparnase” and a fragrant “Madrugada” while David Sanborn and Mark Egan bring lovely soul to “In The Grove Of The Jacarandas”.  “Que Os Ventso Limp em os Tempos” has a soundtrack feel, while the brassy “Andar Descalco” is reminiscent of the Claus Ogerman’s vintage Braziian sessions. The flutes float on the tender “Sopro De Espeanca” and there’s some nice W es Montgomery toned guitar during “Pacuiba”. A wonderful Whitman’s sampler of sweet tastes.
